Prof dr hab. Stanisław Judycki

Stanisław Judycki, born in Gdańsk on 29th November 1954, studied at the Faculty of Philosophy of the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin in the years 1973-1978, and graduated on 19th October 1978 with a Master's degree in Philosophy on the basis of the thesis entitled Edmund Husserl's Concept of Constitution of Space in "Ideas Pertaining to a Pure Phenomenology and to a Phenomenological Philosophy".

From 1978 to 1982 he studied for a PhD at the Faculty of Philosophy at the Catholic University of Lublin. In 1979 he spent three months on a scholarship at the Catholic University in Freiburg, Switzerland and in the years 1981-1982 on a six-month scholarship at the Catholic University in Leuven, at Husserl Archives. From 1983 he was employed at the Faculty of Philosophy at the Catholic University of Lublin. On the 16th May 1984 he obtained a PhD degree in Philosophy from the Catholic University of Lublin where he presented the thesis entitled Intersubjectivity and Time. A Contribution to the Discussion Concerning Edmund Husserl's Late Philosophy (supervisor: prof. dr hab. A.B. Stępień; reviewers: prof. dr hab. J. Czerkawski, prof. dr hab. A. Półtawski). On 26th June 1996 he obtained habilitation degree on the basis of the overall scholarly achievements and the habilitation thesis entitled Mind and Synthesis. The Case Against Naturalistic Theories of Mind (reviewers: prof. dr hab. J. Perzanowski, prof. dr hab. A. Półtawski, prof. dr hab. A.B. Stępień). From 1996 to 1997 he was the recipient of Mellon Research Fellowship at the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences (Holland) (5 months).

On 22th October 2007 he obtained a degree of Professor of Humanities from the President of Poland; from 30th May 2008 he has been employed as a full professor at the Department of Theory of Knowledge at the Faculty of Philosophy of the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin. From October 2010 he is employed at the Department of Metaphysics and Philosophy of Religion at the University of Gdańsk.

He is the author of Intersubjectivity and Time. A Contribution to the Discussion Concerning Edmund Husserl's Late Philosophy (Lublin: TN KUL 1990), Mind and Synthesis. The Case Against Naturalistic Theories of Mind (Lublin: Redakcja Wydawnictw KUL 1995), Consciousness and Memory. A Justification of Anthropological Dualism (Lublin: TN KUL 2004), God and Other Persons. An Essay in Philosophical Theology, (Poznań: 'W drodze' 2010), Philosophical Theology (Poznań-Kraków: W drodze 2013) and numerous articles. His work ranges over epistemology, contemporary philosophy (phenomenology, Kantianism), philosophy of mind and philosophical theology.

Participation in university authorities

  • Director of the Institute of Theoretical Philosophy at the Faculty of Philosophy of the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin from the 1st January 2000 to 31st December 2008.
  • Head of the Department of Theory of Knowledge at the Faculty of Philosophy of the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin from 1st October 2002.
  • Head of the Department of Metaphysics and Philosophy of Religion at the University of Gdańsk from 1st October 2010.

Participation in institutions, organizations and learned societies

  • From 1985 member of the Polish Philosophical Society. From 18th June 1998 corresponding member of the Learned Society of the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin.
  • From 2002 to 2009 Vice President of the Polish Phenomenological Society.
  • From 2000 to 2008 editor-in-chief of Philosophical Annals, published by the Philosophical Society of the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin.
